BSides Hawaii 2023

BSides returns to Hawaii May 24th, 2023 at the Prince Waikiki

Aloha folks!

We’ve received the good news that BSides is coming back to Hawaii for the first time since 2020. The conference will be held at the Prince Waikiki May 24th, 2023, with the theme of “Preparing for cyber battle: surviving the infosec wars.” As in 2020, this year’s conference is being presented by Hi Tech Hui, and is currently sponsored by Hawaiian Telcom Advanced Services, Palo Alto, and Checkpoint. Register to attend at the link on the bsideshawaii.org landing page.

There aren’t many information security conferences held in Hawaii, with most being oriented towards the defense industry, so conferences like BSides, the defunct ShakaCon, and LocoMocoSec that are open to the public, showcase world-class speakers, and feature cutting edge infosec goods are usually well attended. I’ll be there, and will likely meet up with a motley crew of the usual suspects, and will hopefully see new faces on stage and in the audience.

Speaking of new faces on stage, the conference’s CFP (Call For Papers) is still open: https://www.bsideshawaii.org/#speakers You don’t need to be a know-it-all or supah guru to speak - be interested in something related to this year’s theme, put together a narrative or story that conveys your knowledge and insights, and you’re good to go! The audience will have people from all levels of experience from many fields, so there’s bound to be some interest in what you have to say. Give it a try and submit a paper!

Sponsorship packages are still available if your organization wishes to contribute to the conference.

Mahalos and see you there!

Joel
